Medical care for a laceration or cut

Schedule an Appointment Online

When do you need to seek medical care? And what can you do on your own?

You or your kids have an accident with a big cut. What should you do?

First of all, you need to decide whether or not you should seek emergency medical care.

If any of these apply, you need to seek immediate medical care

  1. The laceration is deeper than 1/4″
  2. Muscle, fat or bone can be seen in the cut
  3. The cut crosses a joint and reopens during movements
  4. The cut is made by a rusty object
  5. The cut is made by a human or animal bite
  6. There is a significant amount of blood
  7. The bleeding doesn’t stop after 10 minutes of direct pressure
  8. The cut is jagged
  9. There is a foreign object in the cut

Small cuts that don’t require medical care should be cleaned and bandaged and treat with a triple antibiotic cream.

If the laceration needs medical attention, time is of the essence! Get care as quickly as possible. In transit, apply direct pressure, keep the wound clean, and do not remove foreign objects.

Turnure Medical Group can help with lacerations, cuts and stitches!

Do your doctors do operations?

We perform basic skin procedures (suturing and skin biopsies). We can insert IUDs and nexplanon devices. We can remove ingrown toenails. We can remove skin tags, sebaceous cysts, and most lipomas. We can freeze warts and other unsightly growths. We do not perform any major operations at surgical centers or hospitals.

Can you be my Workman’s Comp doctor?

No. Workman’s Compensation insurance is contracted with specific doctors. We are happy to see you for any health problem or injury you may have regardless of where it occurred; however, if you require extensive treatment related to a workplace injury, a specialty office will probably need to be involved. This usually necessitates a Workman’s Comp provider well-versed in the rules and regulations of the complex Workman’s Comp system.
